Dear Reader,
Joanne Kathleen Rowling (or J.K. Rowling as she's more commonly referred) is easily one of the most famous people in the world. It's hard to believe that a mere 16 years ago, she was just another mother living in England trying to make ends meet and now she is richer than the Queen of England herself.
In 15 years, she has published 12 books which have all become New York Times bestsellers. She is most know for the immensely successful Harry Potter series which have sold more than 450 million copies in nearly 70 languages. The books have inspired movies, companion books, theme parks, merchandise in just about every form imaginable, in addition to an immense and vastly diverse group of dedicated fans that grew up with Harry.
I began reading Harry Potter when I was 7 years old and graduated from high school the year the final movie came out. Harry, Ron, Hermione, Dumbledore, and all of the other magical characters have been there for me for essentially my whole life. They have gotten me through so many instances and have seen me at my highest and lowest points (literature is alive after all and it does perceive your emotions!). Just this year, the series celebrated 15 years in publication with a brand new set of covers in the United States to hopefully enchant a brand new generation of children and to show them that all the magic that they need is available to them inside their own minds.
As such an avid fan of this series and author, I find it my responsibility to spread the pure perfection that is the Harry Potter series. Through this multigrenre research project I hope to, as Professor Snape say in Harry's first Potions lesson, "...bewitch the mind and ensnare the senses" of those who have yet to be captured by this truly magical series beginning with the first novel Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
So, without further ado, I give you your train ticket to board the Hogwarts Express:
Let us run straight at the barrier between platforms nine and ten, hop aboard the train, and begin out first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Ryan Kish
